Our world view can have a huge effect on our life. We are told that in pre-colonial times people believed the world was flat, and people would never have sailed to america if it weren’t for a bold Columbus who challenged this belief. The same is true for us. A lot of us have a belief that holds us back.
This belief that holds us back is that we have little to no control over our life. This belief permeates many areas of our life. It’s very prevalent in lower-income people, but I see it even among wealthy people.
We see this when someone spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars on lottery tickets each year. They’re thinking, “This is how people get rich. They get lucky.”
We see this when someone blames everyone else and everything else for their situation. “It’s that guy’s fault; The economy made me lose my house; My boss is making me miserable.”
We see this when someone will rarely make plans because they figure circumstances will override those plans.
This belief keeps us waiting. We’re waiting for something out there to change for us. We’re waiting for that lucky break. We’re waiting for our job to get better. We’re waiting for an opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life.
So we spend the majority of our life waiting, and when we finally face God, He will say, “I love you. Why didn’t you do more with the life I gave you?”
I’ve done my share of waiting instead of acting. I still get caught up in it from time to time. What about you? What are you waiting for?
